Popular brand Xiaomi has reportedly started working on making their own chipsets for their devices. In 2017, a 28nm Xiaomi chip was featured on the Xiaomi Mi 5C Smartphone. These new chips designed by Xiaomi will be their next in house developed SOCs.
They initially might use these chips on their lower end and also mid range products, and if successful, they might move on to the flagships too. Several reports specify that Xiaomi has hired a lot of people to work on these chipsets and their eventual target is to not depend on other countries for chips any more.
This move will come as a blow to Qualcomm and MediaTek because they ship a lot of chips to Xiaomi for their smartphones. This tells us that Xiaomi wants to become less dependent on other companies.
Not too much info is known about the chips though. Their clock speeds, GPU and base speeds are not yet known. Xiaomi has developed an in house image processing chip before. If everything goes well, we might even see these chips getting used in a few mid range and budget smartphones in 2021 or early 2022.
With that being said, let us know what you think about the new Xiaomi Chips down below. We will update if there is any more information regarding these chips. We think Xiaomi is all set to join Huawei (makes their own in-house Kirin chips), Mediatek, Samsung (Makes in-house Exynos chips), Qualcomm and Apple (makes in-house Bionic Chips) in making industry leading, powerful, price competitive chipsets.
