Redmi Note 7: Stable MIUI 12.5.1 update has begun rolling out to the masses!

Redmi Note 7 was a value for money smartphone launched in early 2019 with great specs for the price. It recently got the MIUI 12.5 update. Read to know more....

Redmi Note 7 Gets MIUI 12.5: This smartphone from Xiaomi was launched back in early 2019 and it was excellent value for money at the time. Aggressive pricing for some of the greatest hardware. It had the Snapdragon 660 and the dual camera setup on the back with good design (slimmer bezels and a waterdrop notch) at the time. It was priced 14,999 and went up to 16,999. This smartphone sold like crazy at the time. One of the bestselling smartphones of 2019. So, many people obviously still use the Redmi Note 7.

For 9,999 it came with the Snapdragon 660 Chipset, a Full HD+ Display, 12MP Main and 2MP Secondary Camera (yes, the legendary 2 megapixel camera existed back then), a 13MP Front Camera, started at 3GB RAM & 32GB Storage, a 4000MAH All Day Battery and it shipped with Android 9 (MIUI 10) out of the box.

It had Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and back along with a plastic frame. The display is an LCD Display with 400+ PPI and decent viewing angles and sharp, crisp images and good colors. A good LCD was used on this smartphone. It also supported 18W Fast Charging. The fingerprint sensor was rear mounted. Note that this might the update this smartphone receives. It might not get MIUI 13.

Redmi Note 7: Smartphone gets the new MIUI 12.5 update with more customization and new UI

It is good to see that Xiaomi has started rolling out this update on a few devices. Note that this is the initial launch and it will take time for people to get the update. All users will get the update eventually.

Xiaomi has pushed the MIUI 12.5 build to all existing MIUI 12 users and it is rolling out in an organized manner to avoid bugs. The update is marked “Stable Beta”, so in a few days, a week or two at most, all users should be able to get the stable & public version.

The update is 2.4 Gigabytes in size.

Though it does not bring Android 11, it still brings a truck load of features and new customization tools with a slew of UI Improvements and optimizations to enhance the end user experience of MIUI.

Refinements and polishes and tweaks were made to give users a stable MIUI that feels modern, though not necessarily bringing Android 11.

– New: Location info can be now reported automatically before the device is powered off
[Status bar, Notification shade]
– Fix: Lock screen notification animations froze after the device was unlocked using face data
– Fix: Notifications flashed in some cases
–Floating notifications weren’t displayed correctly in landscape mode
– Notification badges weren’t updated for incoming notifications on a locked device

It is pretty clear that there are a lot of new features and a lot more customization along with some visual changes and a more productive notes app.

As mentioned before, the Redmi Note 7 might or might not be eligible for the MIUI 13 update that is coming in a few months. There is a good chance that it will not.

To ensure a bug and hassle free experience, Xiaomi is globally rolling out this new MIUI 12.5 update in stages, so a wider update rollout will happen surely in the next few days.
