Mi 12 Leaks: Iterative But Possibly Enticing. Launching This Year?

Mi 12: There is a good chance that the normal Mi 12 might be launched this year, with the respective Pro & Ultra models in 2022. Read to find out latest leaks

Mi 12: This report from GizMo China claims that the Xiaomi Mi 12 has passed the EEC Certification. This possibly means we will get the new Xiaomi Mi 12, the successor to the Mi 11, by the end of 2021 or early 2022. This is also pretty much confirmed to come with the new Snapdragon 898 Chip (Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or whatever they are planning to call the next Snapdragon chip), which has a higher clocked & faster CPU and GPU than the 888+, with better thermals, while we are not sure about the size of transistors in nanometers, 4nm Fabrication is widely reported.

Mi 12 Series: To have a great screen to body ratio.
The New Flagship Xiaomi Lineup For 2022.

Like every time, there will be a Mi 12, a Mi 12 Pro, a Mi 12 Ultra and later on a Mi 12 Lite. The Xiaomi Mi 12 has also passed the BIS certification process (some sort of import/export certification) so this means it might come to India soon, if anyone is curious, the model number that passed the certification is “2201122G”. This might launch in India along with the Redmi Note 11, Note 11 Pro + and that entire series.

If Xiaomi is aiming for a launch by the end of this year, the new Mi 12 phone will most likely enter mass production really soon if it hasn’t already. Note that we only mentioned the “Mi 12” phone, not the entire lineup with the Pro and the Ultra. Going by the new reports, the Mi 12 is going to launch this year while the rest of the lineup will launch early next year.

Mi 12: Specification Leaks and the new Qualcomm Chip

There are a couple of leaked specs of the Mi 12 from Weibo and a couple of other blogs. It is said to have a curved display with a punch hole front camera in the middle. Some reports say it might have 16GB of RAM and also upto a terabyte of storage.

We found some other reports that say all Mi 12 models might not come with 2K screens but since no source was stated, we recommend ignoring this for now, we will mostly get 1440P or 1080P screens anyway and they will be high quality OLED panels. Screen quality on the Mi 12 series of phones should not be a problem, even if the non pro models arrive with 1080P screens and not 2K.

More about this new Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset is that it will have a 3 Cluster CPU design, with 3.09Ghz “Ultra” Frequency. 2.4Ghz “Large” Frequency 1.8Ghz base frequency, which are all pretty standard flagship specs for a flagship chipset. Many leaks suggest that the AnTutu scores might cross the 1 Million Mark. It might come close to Apple’s A14 Bionic on Geekbench. This new chipset from Qualcomm might arrive this December, which usually happens every year.

“Samsung ISOCELL GN5” is the expected primary camera sensor for the Mi 12, it is a 50MP Sensor, we will also see an ultra wide camera and we expect a third macro camera, we do not expect telephoto on the normal Mi 12. Something interesting to note is that there is a chance these will arrive with 120W fast wired charging and 50W wireless charging.

For the Mi 12 Ultra, there are a lot of reports of “Leica Engineered” Camera Systems. Huawei has been using these since 2019, but the collaboration officially ended this year and it looks like Leica is looking for new brands to partner with and since in China, Xiaomi is a really big competitor of Huawei, this might come as a blow to Huawei. Honor is now an independent brand now from Huawei so Leica might collaborate with them as well but we do not know about that.

Reports from Digital Chat Section state that Xiaomi and Leica may have a collaboration going for the Xiaomi Mi 12 series (mostly only on the Pro and Ultra). Leica optimised cameras on these phones will most likely do well, the collaboration between Zeiss and Vivo was pretty successful, so cameras on Xiaomi phones tuned by Leica might solve the one small con with the Mi 11 Ultra. The Mi 11 Ultra had a great camera system, sure, but it still lost to the S21 Ultra.

There were some more leaks about the Xiaomi Mi 12 Ultra. These reports claim that the phone will have two 50 Megapixel lenses, a primary sensor, an ultra wide that also functions as a macro and also a third telephoto zoom lens, supposedly a 1/1.5-inch periscope lens with upto 5x optical zoom support (also claimed to 50MP according to a couple of leakers), and beyond 5X, we might get the same 120X Digital Zoom like we got with the Mi 11 Ultra. It will obviously have an under display ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

Note that we have seen more leaks of the new Mi 12 phone, some claiming it will have a 200MP Sensor, we highly doubt that is happening on the normal Mi 12, think they’re saving that for the ultra. Then there were reports of a higher charging speed, smaller punch hole camera and more screen to body ratio and a variable 120Hz refresh rate. Some also reported an under display front camera but we are not sure about that either. None of them are really conclusive though, or backed up by a proper source. There were reports of a Mini Mi 12, which looks exciting and we will attempt to cover it soon.

That is all we’ve got for now, we have been off the site for a while now but expect regular posts to continue starting today. We will update in case there is any more Mi 12 news, also we will keep our eyes open for news about MIUI 13. Drop a comment down below about what you thought of this news.
